A Restless State is a series of drawing performances at political protests in London.
The performances were a reaction to being stopped and searched several times by the police when I was out and about taking photographs. When I questioned their power to do so, they cited the Prevention of Terrorism Act. Whenever I tried to enter into a discussion, they were only willing to talk if I accompanied them to the police station.
Frustrated by this, I wanted to create a space for dialogue during these encounters. In a bid to break through the binary roles each of us are forced to occupy, I put down my camera and got out my pencils.
