Moving image installation, Applescript running 3840 pixel x 1080 pixel .mov split over 2 HD monitors, perspex sheet hung on steel cabling at 45 degree angle, 46 minutes
Simulator (2023) records a Google Earth journey and splits it over two screens into zones that Google demarcates as the buffer zone and ‘sovereign base’ areas on one screen, with the remainder of the island on the second screen.
A sheet of perspex hanging between the two screens at a 45 degree angle allows for the viewer to position themselves where the perspex reflects and superimposes one image on another. This ghostly superimposition has the effect of spectrally uniting the split images, echoing early military flight simulation displays and the illusion based stage effect trickery which preceded it.
